The existence of the Lingua Bestari aims to publish the results of linguistic research in a number of sub-fields, either microlinguistics, macrolinguistics and applied linguistics. Knowledge development, updating of data, facts, theories, methods, and approaches are the goals of this journal presence. The journal is published twice a year, namely in February and August.<br />Editors publish only those linguistic articles unpublished previously. The authenticity of the article, compliance with the theme of publications, and technical accuracy are prerequisites for receiving and publishing.</p> en-US Lingua Bestari AN ANALYSIS OF IMPOLITENESS STRATEGIES IN 2024 INDONESIAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES https://linguabestari.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/linguabestari/article/view/17 <p>This study aims to reveal how Indonesian presidential candidates use Impoliteness Strategies and how these strategies impact their public image. The data was taken from the three presidential debates that took place on 12 December 2023, 7 January 2024, and 4 February 2024. The theoretical framework employed for the analysis is the impoliteness strategies by Culpeper (1996) and the impoliteness strategies function by Culpeper (2011). The types of impoliteness strategies are bald-on-record impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, sarcasm or mock politeness, and withhold politeness. The functions are affective function, coercive function, and entertaining function. This study found that all five types of impoliteness strategies occur in the debates. These strategies are bald-on-record impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, off-record impoliteness, and withhold politeness. However, the frequency of each type varies. Positive and negative impoliteness are the most frequently used strategies, occurring 5 times out of 13 instances. On the other hand, the functions of impoliteness strategies. Moreover, only two of three functions appear throughout the debate. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach. Qualitative approach is an approach that examines scientific objects in the form of narrative texts. The data source of this research is the third round debate of presidential candidates on the Kompas TV YouTube channel which is currently being discussed and watched by the public with the most video views. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation technique, note-taking technique, and documentation technique. In this research, the writer found 62 assertive speech acts, which consist of 34 speech acts of stating, 10 speech acts of informing, 8 speech acts of reporting, 7 speech acts of concluding, 2 speech acts of suggesting, and 1 speech act of claiming. Based on the speech acts spoken, the most speech acts are speech acts with the function of stating as many as 34 speech acts because these speech acts contain facts, and opinions that want to be given to the interlocutors and the general public, while the least speech act is the speech act of claiming totaling 1 speech act. So, it can be said that assertive speech acts are speech acts that bind the speaker to the truth of what is said, therefore speakers must pay attention to their speech when speaking, especially to the general public.</p> Khaerur Rohmah Copyright (c) 2025 Lingua Bestari 2025-02-18 2025-02-18 1 1 A A CHARLES SANDERS PEIRCE SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS IN ‘LIKE AND SHARE’ POSTER https://linguabestari.ipbcirebon.ac.id/index.php/linguabestari/article/view/23 <p><em>Posters are the main promotional media in conveying message information contained in films. the function of a movie poster is to attract people's interest in watching films that will be shown or are currently showing. Research on like and share movie posters aims to analyze the visual signs, meanings and messages to be conveyed in the posters. This research is a type of qualitative research. The data source for this research was obtained from like and share movie posters downloaded from themoviedb.org website. The theory used is Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics which identifies objects, in the form of icons, indexes and symbols. The method and technique of data collection is the method of observing and noting, in which the researcher analyzes the types of signs and then records them to classify them.
